Under the Affordable Care Act, many Americans, including people living with HIV, will have new health insurance options. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) put together a guide to these key changes and how they will be beneficial for people with HIV.
For people living with HIV, increasing access to health insurance is expected to be a major step in increasing engagement and retention in treatment. Medicaid eligibility expansions, subsidized insurance coverage through Marketplaces, and new standards for health insurance companies have been designed to extend health insurance options to individuals who have previously been uninsured or underinsured.
